Course Description - This content-based course focuses on developing the three modes of communication - interpersonal, interpretive and presentational - with an emphasis on academic writing through readings and discussions. The use of authentic texts from Hispanic cultural and literary traditions allows learners to consolidate oral and written information. Taught in Spanish.
Reflective Narrative:
SPAN 301 taught by Dr. Pablo Oliva helped me fulfill the requirements for both MLO 1. The activities given to us as assignments were not difficult to complete, in the sense that the answers we had were rarely ever complete sentences. In fact, most of them were just trying to see what was wrong with the statement at hand and what the difference between multiple statements were. Grammatical errors were the focus for most of the outcomes, to continuously improve our proficiency and knowledge of what was right and wrong in our own Spanish writing. Many of the works completed for this course revolved around small activities that were essentially practices towards understanding how the Spanish language was arranged. Many of the topics which we went over had to do with many social issues occurring in Mexico, and to understand how different people interpreted certain situations. I began to understand a bit more about the Spanish language. When it comes to MLO 1, the course helped me understand the mistakes I make when speaking or writing and how I can improve upon those issues. This course also contributes to this MLO by illuminating how not just us (the students) but also how the authors of each article, song, or poem have their own way of seeing things and how we can improve upon that to better ourselves. Thanks to this course, I realized that I wish to develop further in my writing. By taking this course, I understand how someone's writing style can influence the overall perspective of who they are. It makes their readers understand who they are and just what they are trying to show the world with their individual styles. This course covered topics similar to those addressed in SPAN 306, mainly with respect to reading and looking over different types of literature. I intend to explore further in this subject by reading and writing more in Spanish, to not only improve my knowledge of Spanish but also to improve myself as a person.
