Course Description - Students work with the instructor and WLC faculty advisors to research, synthesize, write and present their Capstone projects. Students will also complete a Graduation ePortfolio reflecting how each MLO was met. This course is required for all Japanese Language and Culture, and Spanish Language and Hispanic Cultures majors.
Reflective Narrative:
WLC 400 taught by Carolyn Gonzalez is the last stretch a Spanish Language and Hispanic Cultures major student needs for completing the Spanish Language and Hispanic Cultures Bachelor's degree. This course is where we fish off the E-Portfolio by continuing several other sections that were added on during the initial process in WLC 300, as well as the next step after the supporting course SPAN 300 - Pre-Capstone. We add on our capstone project, updating previous additions with newer information. To add on information as to how we accomplished each Major Learning Outcome (MLO) which courses supported them and how we felt about that subject. This course helps in the creation of MLO 6 by using more sources needed in order to complete our research paper. Use certain techniques to figure out which source supports the claims of our thesis and our interviewees fit into our subject. We take into consideration the personal consideration of our interviewees about certain aspects of our subject that my painter and I wanted to look into and how these experiences had an impact on their education, identities, the way they speak and plethora of other things. We hold a somewhat regular meeting with our professor to cover each section of the research paper, what we can do to improve upon it and what will be needed in order to complete the process of the project. Going back and forth between what has been written for that subject and making the necessary corrections depending on what our advisor believes should be done to make the paper come out as well as possible. The final presentation will be made in both the English and Spanish language, and spoken in the language to which the major pertains to. Using slides to summarize our findings from the various texts we used and the receding from our interviews.
